We start our Llanos adventure on a traditional Finca Llanera setting out to explore tropical forests, prairies and waterholes, looking for exotic birdlife. You can chose between a horseback expedition or setting out on foot across the diverse sceneries. On the second day we traverse two ‘hatos’, large traditional ranches in the prairies, observing hundreds of capybaras, the world’s largest rodents, deer, spectacled caimans, tortoises and birdlife. The infinite Llanos sceneries and impressions of farm-life also give a real flavor of Colombia’s cowboy region.
After lunch we take a short drive to the farm.
We can chose between a horseback ride or a hike across gallery forests, savannas, lagoons, palm groves featuring the region’s iconic strangler figs and pastures. We keep our eyes peeled for various wildlife such as howlers, hawks, capuchins, anteaters and colorful birdlife. Enjoying one of those infamous bright orange prairie sunsets we return to the farm's main house.
Traversing two large ranches in a 4x4 vehicle as well as on walks allows us to get close to wildlife such as capybaras, deer, spectacled caimans, ibises, spoonbills, jabirus, Orinoco geese and more.
At the farm house we recharge our batteries with a hearty lunch and a short siesta swaying in the hammock in the prairies' breeze. Exploring those typical wide and open Llanos sceneries provides a taste of the region’s landscapes and culture. After a beautiful sunset in the late afternoon we return to our hotel in Yopal for dinner.
Today we have a free morning. We can have breakfast, relax by the pool of our cabin (photo) or take a last Llanos walk before our airport shuttle for onward journey.
