Finca La Independencia Horseback RideExplore an authentic 600ha large Llanos cattle farm on a half day or full day adventure. Ride across savannas, through lush gallery forests along streams and lagoons and through biodiverse palm forests.
Difficulty: While no experience is required, it's always an advantage to feel comfortable on horseback. Please advise us of your riding skills and requirements and we'll match you with a suitable horse.
Duration: About 5 hours the half day tour (2-3 hours of riding time), about 11 hours the full day tour (4-5 hours of riding) - this can be adapted to suit your skills and preferences

Location and sceneries: Situated a smooth 25 minutes drive from Yopal, this is our easiest to reach starting point for any tours and yet of great diversity, sceneries and wildlife. The 600ha farm features tropical palm forests, open savannas, wet savannas and gallery forests, lush stretches of tropical forest that follow river streams and frame lagoons, both of which we'll cross by horse.
Possible wildlife sightings: Burrowing owls, giant anteater, southern tamandua (small anteater), howler monkeys, capuchin monkeys, various species of ibis, of herons, of hawks, of falcons, of parakeets, toucans, macaws, parrots, woodpeckers, manakins, trogons, wood storks and hummingbirds, foxes, spectacled caiman, red-footed tortoise, hoatzins, boas, various other reptiles (none of them a threat).
Approximate itinerary:
Full day continues as follows
On each tour we may herd or feed cattle as well or experience Llano work as it happens.
- Pick-up from your hotel before dawn (around 5am)
- Arrival to farm at sunrise, sunrise viewing and coffee, search for anteaters and burrowing owls
- Introduction to farm and lassoing the horses
- Riding tour in a large loop across diverse sceneries
- Return to farm's main house, unsaddling the horses and bathing them
- Return to Yopal just before noon
Full day continues as follows
- Lunch at the farm's main house and relaxing in hammocks afterwards
- Afternoon and sunset ride: another loop across open savannah and along forests to look for anteaters and foxes
- Return to farm house at dusk, unsaddling the horses and bathing them
- Return to Yopal in the evening (around 7 pm)
